Architect's Report
Mr and Mrs Sheldon wanted extensions
to both sides of their three bedroom, ‘Surrey style’ house.
The main extension, to the north side, was to form a family dining
room and kitchen in a single, high space and a greenhouse extension
was required to the south side.
The Clients’ stated objectives of incorporating environmentally
friendly materials, conserving rainwater, keeping the exterior visually
calm and contrasting that with an exciting interior was put firmly
on the design agenda from the start.
The interiors are finished in a series of angled planes. The dormer
roof windows, placed symmetrically, are conventional when viewed
from the exterior, excitingly modern when viewed from the interior
and give the glamour and style of an urban quality to a suburban
home.
Natural daylight and sunlight produce a variety of moving patterns
through the high dormers onto the angled planes of the interior and
the effect is complemented by the interior lighting which
was designed by the Clients. |
